The Psychological Power of Movement

How small, consistent exercise reshapes mood, confidence, and well-being over time

Dear friends,

At nearly 87 years old, I’ve learned something simple and dependable:

When the body moves, the mind follows.

This week, I speak plainly about exercise — not as fitness, performance, or self-improvement — but as one of the most reliable tools we have for emotional stability, clarity, and resilience.

I did not grow up exercising. I discovered it later in life, and it changed everything.

What matters is not intensity or ambition.
What matters is beginning — and continuing.

In this episode, I talk about:

  • Why aerobic movement is one of the fastest ways to lift mood and reduce anxiety

  • How even short periods of exercise can create hours of emotional uplift

  • Why starting small works better than waiting for motivation

  • How consistency trains the nervous system to expect steadiness

  • The connection between movement, confidence, and self-trust

  • Why exercise supports recovery during illness, depression, and fatigue

  • How movement adapts to every age, body, and circumstance

  • Why five minutes counts — and always has

This is not about pushing harder.
It is about supporting yourself more wisely.

If exercise has felt overwhelming, discouraging, or out of reach, I invite you to listen with fresh ears. You may find that the path forward is far simpler than you imagined.

Golden light,
Dr. Richard L. Miller

1-minute mind control (my latest book)

Traditional mindfulness and meditation techniques often require a huge investment of your most precious resource (time) without guarantees of results.

My own version of mindfulness—what I sometimes refer to as “mind control”—can be mastered in much less time if you commit to regular 60-90 second practice throughout the day.
