Dear friends,
Most people assume strength belongs to the young.
This week’s conversation challenged that idea completely.
I spoke with Laura Eiman, who did not lift her first barbell until her sixties — and went on to become an Olympic weightlifter. Not because she was chasing medals, but because she was done running from discomfort and done believing life was finished with her.
She shared something that stayed with me:
“When things get hard, most people run away. Strength is learning to move toward the difficulty instead.”
Laura’s story is not really about weightlifting.
It’s about discipline.
It’s about responsibility.
It’s about choosing direction when life feels scattered.
She spoke honestly about addiction, anger, and the moment she decided to stop numbing herself and start taking her life seriously — one small decision at a time.
What I found most inspiring was not how strong she became, but when she began.
Strength does not have an age requirement.
Purpose does not expire.
And it is never too late to begin treating yourself as someone worth caring for.
If you’ve ever thought, “I missed my chance,” I hope this conversation offers another way of seeing things.
Golden light,
Dr. Richard L. Miller

1-minute mind control (my latest book)
Traditional mindfulness and meditation techniques often require a huge investment of your most precious resource (time) without guarantees of results.
My own version of mindfulness—what I sometimes refer to as “mind control”—can be mastered in much less time if you commit to regular 60-90 second practice throughout the day.
Breathing. Witnessing. Changing the channel on negative thoughts.
I’ve honed these techniques over a lifetime of personal and professional practice, and now I’m sharing them with the world.
