How I ditched my cane at 85

The power of controlling your mind to control your body - at any age

Dear Listener,

In my 64 years of experience practicing clinical psychology, I've learned that the key to happiness lies in one crucial skill: taking control of your mind.

You must take control of your mind to have a happy life. Otherwise, you'll have to grapple with this little generating machine called the mind, which can produce anything it wants. And sometimes it generates thoughts that can make you feel miserable.

Now, I won't sugarcoat it – this takes practice. A lot of practice. Over and over again. It's a big job, but trust me, it's worth it. Nobody said life would be easy, but there are things we can learn to make it easier. And taking control of your mind is one of them.

In this episode, I relay how I took control of my mind at two critical junctures in my life – following my motorcycle accident over 30 years ago, and following the pandemics just a few short years ago – to gain active control over my body. Specifically, I share how I ditched my cane through a combination of “mind control” and physical resistance training (or, what I call “Dog Yoga”).

It’s never too late. So, my friends, get with it. While you still have time, join in and start practicing.

If you're looking for more tips and insights on how to live a happy, fulfilling life, I invite you to join the 23,000 people who have followed me on Instagram @DrRichardLouisMiller in just the last 3 weeks. I've been blown away by the response to my recent video on the topic of living in the present, which has already received over 1.1 million views.

It's clear that this message resonates with so many of you, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my experiences and knowledge with such a wide audience.
