Dear Friends,
When I first connected with Ebru Şinik (@ebrusinik) on Instagram, something special resonated. Here was someone halfway across the world speaking the same language of health, persistence, and joy that I've championed for decades. Through her posts and our growing digital friendship, I witnessed her remarkable ability to beam light and positivity while delivering serious, science-based wellness education to thousands.
Our paths seemed destined to cross.
In our recent conversation I shared with her how my grandmother had lived in Istanbul in 1908, speaking Turkish with such fluency that decades later she could still converse with Turkish visitors.
Now, Ebru is transforming wellness education in her beloved Istanbul through an inspiring blend of modern science and ancient wisdom.
Twenty years ago, Ebru was a successful stock broker battling chronic health issues. Today, she's a leading voice in preventive medicine, training the next generation of wellness practitioners and transforming corporate culture across Turkey. Her journey offers valuable lessons for anyone seeking to improve their health and find their true calling.

In our wide-ranging discussion, Ebru shares:
How daily meditation and breathing practices transformed her health when conventional approaches failed
The science-based morning routine that keeps her vibrant at 51
Her work bringing wellness programs to major companies like Microsoft, Apple, and Google
The importance of treating our bodies as our "only asset" in this world
"When I started meditating, in just six weeks my physiology changed completely," Ebru told me about her transformation. "My breathing patterns regulated, my anxiety disappeared, my digestion improved. I started to feel better in every way - physically, mentally, even spiritually. That's when I knew I had to share these practices with others."
Her passion for teaching others came from her own transformation through simple but powerful daily practices. After experiencing profound improvements in her breathing, digestion, and overall wellbeing, she left her finance career to study at the Chopra Center and eventually founded a wellness academy in Istanbul.
The Power of Daily Rituals
Ebru's morning routine offers a practical template for anyone looking to improve their health:
Warm lemon water to start the day
Tongue scraping for oral health
Oil pulling with sesame oil
Nasal cleaning with a neti pot
10 minutes of pranayama breathing exercises
20-30 minutes of meditation
"In six weeks my physiology changed immediately," she says of starting these practices. "My breathing patterns started to regulate, I didn't feel any anxiety symptoms... I started to feel better in every way - in my physical body, my mental body, even in my spiritual body."
Today, Ebru runs certification programs at Istanbul's GEDIC University, training preventive medicine specialists in four areas: wellbeing coaching, biointegrative bread therapy, Ayurvedic yoga therapy, and longevity nutrition. Her approach emphasizes that wellness isn't a belief system - it's cutting-edge science for manipulating epigenetic activations.
The Universal Language of Health
Whether in Istanbul or California, people are seeking ways to manage stress, improve wellbeing, and find meaning in their lives. The key, Ebru believes, is helping people connect with their inner wisdom and value.
"First of all, we need to find our value and our inner wisdom within ourselves, and then we can manage everything," she says. "I believe if people can connect with themselves, they can manage everything - even obesity, even financial situations."
This week, I invite you to consider: What daily practices could you adopt to better honor your body as your "only asset"?

Coming November 5: Psychedelic Medicine at the End of Life
You can now pre-order my latest book, Psychedelic Medicine at the End of Life: Dying Without Fear (release date: November 5). This work represents a culmination of my decades-long journey as a clinical psychologist, exploring how psychedelics can transform our approach to death and dying.
The book examines how substances like LSD, MDMA, and psilocybin can be powerful tools in confronting our fears of mortality, ultimately leading to richer, more fulfilling lives. I'm honored to include insights from renowned experts in the field, as well as my own experiences.
Here's what some esteemed colleagues are saying:
James Fadiman, Ph.D., calls it "a deeply uplifting, clear, and compassionate guide to dying and how psychedelics, used correctly, diminish our fears about approaching the door that opens at the end of our life."
Charles S. Grob, M.D., describes it as "a masterful overview of an area of vital importance to our modern world... a valuable resource and contribution to the growing field of psychedelic medicine."
Julie Holland, M.D., notes that "Psychedelics may offer a mini-death rehearsal, offering a glimpse of spiritual oneness, enabling us to be less afraid at the end of our lives."
I hope this book will inspire meaningful conversations and new perspectives on how we approach the end of life.
