Finding Inspiration in Conquering Fear: A Conversation with a Cancer Survivor

On the same day that Heather A. Lee became a certified psychotherapist, she received her cancer diagnosis. How did she cope? With a taste of her own medicine.

Dear friends and neighbors,

What a pleasure to spend time with a person who has conquered fear and anxiety, with psychedelics, and thereby lives a life of freedom. Heather has a golden glow about her which is inspirational. Heather and I are both cancer survivors who used psychedelics during our recovery with remarkable results. While neither of us are presently in an end-of-life transition, there was a time when both of us appeared to be entering that path and the work we did carries us forward.

NOTE: I am currently embarking on a new series featuring healing stories from those who have benefitted from psychedelics at the end of life, or in the face of a terminal diagnosis. I hope to interview those with direct personal experience, as well as relatives, friends, and clinicians with stories to share. Please email my producer if you would like to be interviewed on my program, and featured in a future book on this topic.

Wishing you Golden Light,

Richard Louis Miller: Welcome to Mind Body Health & Politics. I'm your host, Dr. Richard Louis Miller.

The mission of Mind Body Health & Politics is to enhance your physical and mental wellbeing and encourage community.

I say encourage community because I believe that human beings are basically friendly tribal animals who are cooperative and like hanging out with one another. If you look at small towns around the United States, you'll see how much cooperation there really can be.

But at the very same time, we have to acknowledge that a very small percentage of we humans have a very different view of life than the rest of us. They are avaricious predators. Instead of collaboration and cooperation, they believe in top-down dictatorial policies. They are not interested in democracy and a republic the way the rest of us are.

So, we must stay aware and protect this fragile democracy and republic that we have, because we are still a beacon to the world, as we have been for over 200 years when we threw off the shackles of being subjects of a king and became citizens. In the words of one of my heroes, Thomas Jefferson, "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty."

With us today on Mind Body Health & Politics, I'm pleased to have Heather Lee. Heather Lee is one of the first certified psychedelic psychotherapists in the United States and we're going to find out what that means, how she got it, and more about Heather's life.

Welcome to Mind Body Health & Politics, Heather.

Heather A. Lee: Thank you so much for having me, Richard. I always love your opening. It stirs the soul and gives you that sense of reminding ourselves that we really do need to stay so vigilant for these incredible rights that we have here in this country.
