The Daily Practice of Self Love
Small words and simple actions that add up to a lifetime of kindness
Dear friends,
After 65 years as a clinical psychologist, I’ve been asked countless times: “How do I show love to myself?”
The answer is easy—and powerful.
There are two ways: through words and through actions.
“Say five nice things to yourself every single day.”
At the end of a year, that’s 1,800 loving words spoken to yourself. Imagine the effect of carrying that much kindness in your own mind.
Then comes action. Do nice things for yourself—small or large. Take a walk. Enjoy a massage. Spend an hour in nature. Say to yourself:
“I’m doing this for me, because it makes me feel good.”
The better you take care of yourself, the more you’ll have to give to others.
Self-love isn’t selfish. It’s the foundation that allows you to show up fully for the people around you.
So today, ask yourself: what’s one kind word and one kind action you can give yourself? Share it with me. Let’s talk.
Golden light,
Dr. Richard Louis Miller
P.S. I share many simple practices like this in my book, Master Your Mind: Practical Tools to Calm Anxiety, Silence Your Inner Critic, and Stop Overthinking, . These tools are designed to help you care for yourself in small, consistent ways—because the little things, repeated over time, transform your life.

1-minute mind control (my new book)
Traditional mindfulness and meditation techniques often require a huge investment of your most precious resource (time) without guarantees of results.
My own version of mindfulness—what I sometimes refer to as “mind control”—can be mastered in much less time if you commit to regular 60-90 second practice throughout the day.
Breathing. Witnessing. Changing the channel on negative thoughts.
I’ve honed these techniques over a lifetime of personal and professional practice, and now I’m sharing them with the world.
